Festive Decor

Here’s a fun and easy holiday project for the whole family. We used our 12 oz. canning jars and whimsical decorations to make two cute snowman luminaries and two snowman room fresheners as holiday decorations.

Snowman Luminaries

Materials:

*all of the supplies for the snowman’s face were purchased at Michael’s.

Directions:

STEP 1: ATTACH EYES AND NOSE

Using your handls, mold a carrot shaped nose using the orange model clay.

Mold nose

Glue the nose to the center of the jar using a hot glue gun.

STEP 2: APPLY SNOW TO JAR

With the sponge brush, apply a thick coat of Decou-Page glue to the outside of the jar. Make sure it’s thick enough so that the snow sticks to it.

Sprinkle a thick layer of snow all around the jar. You can use your hands to pat it down. Repeat this step for the second jar and allow to dry.

Add snow

STEP 3: CREATE EARMUFFS AND ATTACH TO LID

Twist a red and a white pipe cleaner together to make a candy cane pattern. Trim the ends, shape into a "U" and glue the ends to the outside of the pewter daisy lid.

STEP 4: ADD TEALIGHT TO LUMINARY

Place a wick stickum on the bottom of each tea light and carefully center it on the inside of the jar.

Add tealight

*Note: Make sure you remove the lid before lighting the tealight candle inside.

Place finished luminaries on a level surface. Do not leave burning candles unattended or burn longer than 2 hours.

Directions:

STEP 1: MELT WAX AND ADD FRAGRANCE OIL

Melt 2 lb. of GB 464 (32 oz.) using a double boiler. Heat wax to 185 F.  Once the wax reaches 185 F add 2.5 oz of Christmas Hearth fragrance oil. When adding fragrance, stir well and remove from heat. Do not let fragranced wax continue to heat as the fragrance will evaporate out of the wax.

Allow the wax to cool to 135 F and then carefully pour the hot wax evenly into the two canning jars.  Allow the containers to cool completely.

STEP 4: ATTACH EYEBROWS AND SMILE

Using the scissors and black felt material, cut out eyebrows and 4 round pieces of “coal” to create the mouth of the snowman. Remove the paper backing from the felt eyebrows and place each one above the eyes of the snowman. Remove the paper backing from the 4 round pieces of felt and place them under the nose to create a smile. Repeat step for the second jar.

STEP 5: ATTACH EARMUFFS AND LID

Twist a red and a white pipe cleaner together to make a candy cane pattern. Trim the ends, bend the pipe cleaners into a "U" shape, and hot glue the ends to the outside neck of the canning jar. Glue a pom pom to the ends of the pipe cleaner connected to the jar. Repeat this process  for the second jar. To finish attach a pewter daisy lid to each container.
