The IFRA 49 amendment brought about several changes to the way different products are categorized as well as their maximum allowable usages. To help you easily reference these changes, we list the previous recommendations and the new recommendations below. 

Please use this table to view the soap-safe fragrances that have been affected by the IFRA 49. The usage recommendations you see here are CandleScience recommendations for use in soap and other Category 9 products. Usage information for other kinds of products and applications can be seen on the IFRA certificate for each fragrance.

Note that even when the CandleScience usage recommendation is 0%, you may reference the IFRA certificate and find that fragrance is still approved for soap applications at low percentages. We require fragrances to be approved at a minimum of 2% for us to recommend it for soaps, but you might find that a fragrance lists an allowable usage rate of 1% on the IFRA certificate. In these cases, we recommend testing at those rates to determine if it will still work for your product.
