From Studio to Shelf: Displaying Your Collection Make your lineup pop with these shelf talker treats and merchandising tricks

The "Silent Salesperson": Shelf Talkers

Shelf talkers are small signs used in retail product displays at brick-and-mortar stores and on tabletops at markets. They highlight a particular item or collection and provide product information to shoppers that encourages purchases.

Shelf Talker Design Tips
  • Select high-quality imagery or bold graphics. Choose lifestyle or editorial shots that grab shopper attention from a distance.
  • Keep the copy focused and punchy. Include:
    • A clear headline
    • Succinct text that covers a product's benefits, how it can be used, the story behind it, or a point of difference
  • Standardize sizing to 4"x6" or 5"x7". Using these standard postcard dimensions makes printing affordable and ensures your signs fit into common holders.
  • Design for double-sided use. Consider printing two designs onto one card so that the shelf talker is reversible.
  • Elevate the presentation. Display the shelf talkers by inserting them in a holder or attaching self-adhesive easel backs.

Hauntingly Good Merchandising

Visual merchandising presents products to maximize their appeal, making shopping easier and generating more sales. Use these tips whether you have a shop or sell in-person at markets and pop-up events!

Visual Merchandising Best Practices
  • Vary heights, textures, and shapes to create visual interest. Use risers, crates, books, etc. to keep eyes moving vertically and horizontally across your displays.
  • Establish a focal point to anchor the display. Position your best-selling product or popular items at eye level to catch customer attention.
  • Avoid overcrowding. Give your products room to breathe so shoppers can see them more clearly and avoid feeling overwhelmed.
  • Group items in threes. Asymmetrical arrangements are more visually engaging and create a balanced look.
  • Select coordinating display props. Use materials and colors that complement your products and reinforce your branding.
  • Keep products accessible and tactile. Remove lids from tester candles and place items within easy reach. When customers engage their senses, they're more likely to buy!
