Olfactive Description: Citrus, Orange, Lemon, Woody

A complex citrus favorite, Bergamot essential oil performs well on its own or as a top note in a handmade blend. This cold pressed essential oil comes from the rind of the bergamot orange fruit. Bright and uplifting, bergamot has sophisticated notes reminiscent of bitter orange and lemon that merge together with warm, woody accents.

Bergamot essential oil performs best in bath and body products like bar soap, lotion, and perfume. We also recommend it for use in wax melts, tarts, and reed diffusers.

Candle Maker’s Notes:
We’ve thoroughly tested our essential oils for use in candles. While this essential oil is safe for use in candles, we do not recommend it. We found that the burning flame transforms the scent into something similar to burning rubber, a very unpleasant scent. The shift in the scent is caused by a reaction between the essential oil and the flame. However, wax melts produce the expected citrus scent.

If you’re searching for a bergamot fragrance that performs well in a candle, we recommend Orange Blossom fragrance oil.

We did experience a slight amount of acceleration but no separation. It took a while to reach an emulsion, and once we achieved a light trace the batter remained thin. We continued stick blending to a medium trace. As we started pouring into the mold we noticed it started to thicken. After 24 hours, we observed the soap gelled about ¾ of the way through the loaf. There was very light discoloration to pale yellow, and we had to compare it to our unscented reference bar to see the discoloration clearly. The scent was very strong. After 30 days there did not appear to be any discoloration. Unfortunately, the scent faded significantly but was still detectable.
