How to Make Monster Away Spray

Bedtime just got a little less spooky with our DIY Monster Away Spray! A fun, kid-friendly project that helps little ones feel safe at night while leaving their room smelling fresh and cozy. With simple ingredients and a few easy steps, you’ll create a monster-banishing mist that keeps the vampires, werewolves, and closet creatures away.
Additional items needed:
- Distilled or tap water
- Fragrance-safe glass container
- Container to measure water
- Scissors
- Paper towels
- Adult supervision is recommended.
- Supplies should not be re-used for food prep.
- Be sure to use glass containers with fragrance or essential oil; the concentrated oil can break down paper and some plastics.
Directions:
Make sure your tools and workspace are clean. We like to wipe everything down with isopropyl alcohol and a paper towel, but you can also use soap and water or a 5% bleach solution. To make clean up even easier, you can use a protective mat like the Black Silicone Work Surface Mat.
Step 1: Adjust the sprayer tube length
The Black Fine Mist Sprayer (24mm-410) fits various bottle sizes. To adjust, hold the sprayer flush with the bottle top and cut the tube at an angle, slightly longer than the bottle height.

Step 2: Weigh the room spray base
Place a clean funnel pouring pitcher on your scale and press tare to set it to 0. Pour the room and linen spray base into the pitcher until the scale reads 51 g. Then set it aside.

Step 3: Weigh the fragrance oil
Place a glass container on your scale and press tare. Weigh 7 g of fragrance and set it aside.

Step 4: Weigh the water
Place a clean container (like a measuring cup or pitcher) on your scale and press tare. Weigh 177 g of distilled or tap water.

Step 5: Combine all ingredients
Pour the fragrance oil and water into the pouring pitcher with the base already in it.

Mix all of the ingredients well using a spatula or a whisk. The solution may appear cloudy or tinted due to variations in the fragrance oils, but don't worry, this is expected.
You can double-check the final weight on a scale for accuracy. The weight of all the ingredients mixed together should not be more than the recommended fill weight of the bottle found here.

Step 6: Fill the spray bottle
Carefully pour the solution into the bottle using the funnel pouring pitcher. Then, just twist on the sprayer head. The nozzle can also be locked for storage when you're not actively monster hunting.

Step 7: Add a fun label
To complete the look, try creating a fun, kid-friendly label for the Monster Away Spray. Little ones can even help out by coloring on blank labels and adding their own designs!
These labels can be found as a Canva template here. They are 4.5" x 2.5" rectangles printed on Matte White Film from Avery WePrint. Just make any adjustments you need, then upload them directly to the Avery site for printing!
Once the bottle is clean and dry, carefully apply the label, smoothing out any bubbles.
