Great Smelling Blueberry Fragrance but would anyone have thoughts on what wick to use for this FO? Been testing HTP, CD, ECO and Premier @ 7% FO load/lb GB464 soy wax. Containers: 4 oz quilted Jelly Jars. 2 drops liquid blue dye from another supplier. Cured ~ 4 days. For test purposes used ~ 2.5 oz wax per Jelly Jar. All tests are a basic synopsis of 3 total burns, the first burn being a "Power Burn" or however you call it - 4-5 hours duration. Basically how I can guess a person who has never made candles would burn a candle without wick trims/centering, etc, Pretty much light & go - not really worry much about it (which they should always do) but... The 2nd/3rd burn time duration's were for ~ 2-3 hours.
Test 1 -
HTP 083
OK, but flame height .75-1.0" a bit tall. Wick leaned BAD enough to concern me. Melt pool OK 3/8"-1/2". But wick mushroomed... NO SOOT, Flame on the Tall side - Very warm glass @ 3rd burn.
CD 10
Flame height 1"+, Too Tall, got taller on 2nd & 3rd burn. Melt pool 3/8" deep - stayed acceptable BUT SOOTING VERY BAD. Hot Glass @ 2nd- 3RD burns.
ECO 8
1" Flame to start - settled to .75", but even with wick trims got TOO Tall, 1"+ on 1st-3rd burns. Melt pool .5-.75" deep-too deep. SOOT BAD through Burns 1-3 - Comes and goes- Can't figure this wick out. Hot Glass starting @ 1st burn.
PREMIER 760 - Flame .75-1+", Too Tall. Melt pool 3/8" - 3/4"+ - too deep... SOOT BAD Burns 1st-3rd - settled some but...still Soot... Hot Glass on #1-3 burns.
SO, TEST #2 - Everything the same but backed all wicks down by One (1) Size.
Results - Basically results were quite the same as Test #1. Not very impressed...
Test #3 --- Everything (wax, FO load, etc.,) all the same but LOWERED ALL WICKS down AGAIN by one size. Waiting on these four candles to cure for 4 days.
Wondering, has anyone has used C/S's CSN wicks for GB 464 wax? According to the wick chart, CSN's are recommended for palm wax however C/S no longer carries palm wax. I have not read specific reviews on the CSN wicks however, I have used them in the past and from what I recall, sooting was not an issue. Repainting ceilings/walls is no fun.
Any thoughts would be very much appreciated.
