Burgundy Liquid Dye for candle wax produces a color ranging from a light pink or dusty rose to deep burgundy depending on usage. Your actual experience may vary depending on what type of wax you use and the amount of dye used. We encourage you to experiment.

In soy, deep, rich colors are challenging and standard dye amounts create a washed-out, pastel color. They require 2-3 times the dye that paraffin requires, sometimes more.

  • A 1 oz bottle can color up to 100 lb of soy wax or 200 lb paraffin to a medium shade.
  • A 4 oz bottle can color up to 400 lbs of soy wax or 800 lbs to a medium shade.

Fragrance Oil Recommendations: Black Cherry Merlot, Cranberry Apple Marmalade, Cranberry Woods, Mediterranean Fig

Note: Due to the extreme concentration of our liquid dyes there is a noticeable odor that will not be detectable at normal usages in finished candles.

Dye color confusion

Be sure you use the correct amount of drops and experiment before making a large batch. This is my first try and i used the color palette from the product and wanted the deepest burgundy so used 6 drops per lb as directed. The color when mixing looked just perfect, but when drying was more of a mauve color, def not what I was looking for. Fortunately I didn’t make a large batch. I’ll keep trying until I get the deep color I’m looking for and decide if it’s going to be cost effective.

The color is really nice but reacts with Soy every time producing more than normal frosting. Even mixed with other colors or using less I get frosting with this 100% of the time

Very concentrated dye!

I was trying to achieve a plum/ purple type color with this dye. I don’t think I got the exact shade I wanted but I must say it’s very concentrated and one 4oz bottle of dye created 130 6oz jars candles.
I used 25 drops per lb of Golden Brands 444 soy wax.
I think if I had used about 35 drops the color would have been achieved but overall I’m satisfied and the dye does a great job!

UPDATE to "Deep Colors Not Easily Achieved"

25 drops in one pound of GB464 Soy achieved the deep burgundy pictured, a beautiful color. (Okay, maybe the last drop was overkill but there was no way I would settle for another raspberry colored candle.) More specific soy usage instructions might avoid disappointment for the first time user.

Deep colors not easily achieved.

Twelve drops in one pound of GB464 Soy produced a lovely medium raspberry color. Natural waxes will take more than twice the amount of dye suggested to achieve the deep burgundy in the sample picture. Protect your work surface and your hands from stains. Unlike dye blocks/chips, liquid tends to spill and even a tiny drop of this concentrated color can get everywhere.

Raspberry

I actually used this to make a pinkish raspberry color. I used just one drop for like 50 oz. of IGI 6006.

Not very "Burgundy"

I used this dye to make Pomegranate cider candles. I used GB 464 soy wax and used 20 drops in 2 lbs wax. It was a really pretty purple/maroon type color. It was not Burgundy at all and I was hoping for a more deep red tone to the color. Purple was not what I was going for. I did give this 3 stars because it was a very pretty color and mixed very well. I would use this again just maybe not for the Pomegranate cider. It may color differently in parafin wax or be different if I used double the drops. Will have to test it a bit more.

This is so easy to use! I've been using dye chips and was a little nervous how different the liquid would be. I use 1 lb of IGI 6006 ParaSoy at a time to make candles. I am still new to the process and have also just switched from GB 464 to IGI 6006 so I'm not sure how it will do in Pure Soy. I used 7 drops in IGI 6006 and it came out a lovely medium rose pink. A little lighter than what I wanted for Dragon's Blood, but still very pretty! I'll add more drops next batch to make it darker for Dragon's Blood and keep this color in mind for a different scent! Will buy again!
