Golden Brands 454 Coconut Soy Wax brings together the best of two popular plant-based waxes to create a superb single-pour choice for container candles and tealights.

Coconut wax is increasingly in demand due to its excellent glass adhesion, frost resistance, smooth tops, and strong hot throw. This blended coconut wax produces a creamy, off-white candle with a hot throw a bit stronger than soy wax alone.

While the ratio of coconut to soy is proprietary, we can share that soy is the dominant wax.

This wax comes in flake form for easy measuring and requires no additives. Just like other Golden Brands waxes, the wax is made with USA-grown soybeans and is manufactured in the USA.

Candle Maker's Notes: Wicking is the biggest challenge we've experienced with 454. We strongly suggest reviewing the Lab Notes for a detailed breakdown of where to start with wicking your container. Our Wick Guide will also help point you in the right direction!

Sinkholes, craters, and other similar concerns are often fixed by adjusting the pour temperature. We recommend starting with a pouring temperature of 170°F (76.7°C), but you may need to adjust based on your individual maker space. We recommend adjusting by +/-5°F (2.8°C) at a time to find the right pouring temperature for your space and candles.

Instructions

Heat to 185°F (85°C) using a double boiler. Add fragrance or essential oil, remove from heat, and stir for two minutes. Pour at 170°F (76.7°C). Allow candles to cure for two weeks for optimal fragrance throw.

It's Complicated

I love the way this wax looks; color is perfect and beautifully smooth tops. What I am struggling with is the hot throw and wick. I have tried 6 different wicks to no success - they are all tunneling and not one of them has reached the full edge even after a 3.5 to 4 hour burn. Also, every time I light one nobody can smell it and I have doubled to amount of FO I put in.

I am hoping it is user error and would love some tips on a proper wick for a 10.5oz vessel/how to get a stronger smell!

Invisible Sinkholes

This wax is ok, has a good hot and cold throw, but i followed the instructions as closely as possible and still ended up with deep invisible sinkholes around the wick in the good majority of my candles. Experimentation with various aspects didn’t really help either, but a heat gun fixed the problem. my candles are still sellable, but some got frosting after being hit with the heat gun and it was a lot of extra time to the process. Not sure what i can try anymore to prevent this.

Wick?

Hi, I'm using this wax and tried the CD 22 6" wick for a 3.00" container, and it is tunneling. Which wick do you guys recommend? By the way, the texture of the wax is amazing! I'm just having problems with the wick.

If you do happen to get a sink hole with your wax, a heat gun will fix it. My clients and I have been happy with the candles made from this wax.

What’s the highest temperature can i melt this wax?

I really like this wax but i feel like it doesn’t give a strong hot throw and i think it’s because I’m using a melter instead of a double boiler and i am not sure at what temperature to set my melter because at 185F it gets too cold once i pour the wax into my pitcher and I’m not sure if setting the temperature a little higher will burn the wax or if it will affect the wax
