Choose a Variant

A salty ocean breeze with a hint of mystique, Sel de Mer fragrance oil bottles its namesake—a complex, mineral-rich sea salt. Bordering on a spa fragrance, cardamom and orange peel top notes balance a rich heart of sea salt resting on an aquatic base of palm, light musk, and amber.

Candles, wax melts, and tarts made with this fragrance oil will set an atmosphere of salty ocean waves lapping the shore. Soap, lotion, and scrubs will transport you to memories of deep relaxation on sun-warmed beaches.

This fragrance is infused with essential oils, including cardamom, clove, and orange.

Lye Water Temperature 115ºF (46.1°C)
Oil Temperature 109ºF (42.8°C)

We experienced a moderate amount of acceleration but no separation. After the oils and water slowly came to an emulsion we switched to alternating between a single pulse of the stick blender and hand-stirring until we reached a light trace. We immediately did a second test to confirm trace and found it was at a thick trace. The batter remained workable and it poured smoothly into the mold without stiffening. After 24 hours, we observed there was very little discoloration and the soap reached a partial gel. The scent was quite strong and true to the out-of-bottle character. After 30 days, the soap had a very slight yellow discoloration, we only noticed it when compared to an unscented bar. The scent was still strong but a little smoother and well-balanced. We’d recommend adding this fragrance at a light trace and plan to work quickly with a simple design.

Amazing Fragrance

This is my favorite fragrance to use in body butters/scrubs as well as soaps. It’s not a top seller for my customers but it’s my favorite for myself.

Blends well with Sea Minerals to make it a better seller. I will buy this fragrance again and again.

Unexpected but great

I did not know what to make of this out of bottle but I really liked it in a candle. I've used it alone and as a mixer, great for summer products! Very sea salt and musk forward to me. I'm not usually a musk person but it wors so well in this fragrance. Great HT in EC26 coconut soy.

So Salty... but in a good way

CS really did a good job capturing saltiness in a FO. They did not disappoint with their "mineral rich" claims. Salt was the first fragrance I picked out. I also smelled tangy notes and a freshness. I mixed this fragrance with another ocean-like FO to help bring out the salty notes in the ocean FO and it really did work! I have a very good CT and HT with a 52% soy to 48% paraffin wax blend and an ECO wick. The fragrance is salty, yet still very nice to inhale. The FO is 7.5% of my ocean-like FO and 3.7% Sel de Mer = 11.2% total.

Hi Audra,

Thanks so much for your review. We typically recommend keeping the fragrance load for candles between 6-10%, even if your wax states that it can hold more. We’ve found that higher loads can cause certain issues like fragrance leaching or pooling or you may experience poor burn performance including little to no hot throw or excess soot or smoke while the candle burns. However, we are glad to hear that you’ve found a process that works great for you and that you’re enjoying working with our fragrances. This sounds like a wonderful blend, thanks so much for sharing!

Great Scent & mixer!

You definitely get that salty clean air and while this is a great scent on it own, it’s also a great mixer. I did a 50/50 blend of Sel de Mer and Cedarwood Blanc on a blotter and thought it was amazing. They definitely compliment each other. Great job with this scent!

Quickly becoming a top seller!

I personally love oceanic fragrances and find it hard to be discerning when it comes to adding them to my line. I recently rebranded and decided to make Sel de Mer a focus and I'm so glad that I did! It's become one of my top sellers in the short time it's been featured. The clean, salty breeze it evokes makes me and my customers very happy!

Irish Spring like

I think this made the perfect deodorant soap, lol. I wasn't expecting the strength of this beautiful, fresh, clean scent! Woah. I will buy this one again. :) Reminds one a little bit of an Irish Spring scent, although honestly I have not purchased commercial soaps in many years. So that is just by my memory. Love this salty beachy fresh scent so much though, thank you!

A bit sharp by itself

Has better potential for me if I blend it next time. I know we can't judge straight out of the bottle, because you know, science. The sharp soap smell softened up when I added to wax. I let cure for 3 days (as recommended by the wax I'm using) and my test burn has been going for almost an hour now. It still has that sharp soap smell that is prominent to me. I think that could be balanced out with just the right blend. Not giving up yet.

Amazing Throw Luxury Scent

Tested this my soy 10 and absolutely love it. This has been the most sophisticated ocean scent CS has made. I’m obsessed! I get amazing cold and hot throw with this fragrance oil (something Ive heard a hard time with with Sea Minerals and High Tide)

Nice ocean scent!

I finally found a lovely ocean scent that has a good hot throw and not subtle! I use soy 444 10% BURNS beautifully. for me personally i found that this scent only works with CD wicks, ECO wicks had not so good hot throw regardless of being the same ECO- 12 VS CD-12. The scent is very salty ocean like and you cans smell the citrus notes at the end. I had no discoloration in wax. Adding this to my collection!

Salty and oceanic, great in soap!

Beautiful fragrance, performed well in cold process soap had enough time to do a design but nothing too intricate. Can’t wait to try it in candles!
