Product Notice: As of July 2, 2021, Suede and Smoke will be available in a non-standard 15 oz size due to a higher concentration of natural oils that make it less dense. This size is equivalent to the standard 16 oz bottles available for most of our other fragrance oils.

Suede and Smoke fragrance oil evokes an atmosphere of relaxing with an after-dinner cordial in an old fashioned smoking room with worn leather chairs and smoldering cigars. Bold notes of leather and smoke make this a great option for sensual or masculine candle lines. Hints of amyris, musk, and moss complement the smokiness of this intensely earthy fragrance.

Whether used on its own or as a luxurious, smoky complement in a custom blend, Suede and Smoke will capture your imagination.

This fragrance is infused with natural essential oils, including cedarwood, patchouli, labdanum, and pine.

Blends well with: Caribbean Teakwood, Moroccan Cashmere

Alternative branding ideas: Cigar Club, Smoking Jacket, Charcoal Suede, Embers and Oak, Leather and Char

Note Profile:
Top: Leather
Middle: Smoke, Amyris

We did not experience any acceleration or separation. This fragrance was easy to work with and was slow to come to a light trace. After 24 hours we observed some fragrance pooling on the surface, which we blotted away before unmolding. The soap block had a beige and purple swirl discoloration and when we cut the bars the center remained a light yellow shade. We found a small golf ball sized area where the soap started to gel. The scent was quite strong but not as intense as the out of bottle character of the fragrance. After 30 days the soap had discolored to a purplish brown. The scent was very strong with a nice balance of leather notes and subtle smokiness.

Unusual, but in the best way!

I'm adding this to my fall line of candles for something thats not an obvious pumpkin, spice etc fall scent. This is a good alternative for those that don't like the basic "fall" smells. I love it. It's not too heavy for us who like the leather smells. Perfect southern fall scent for those who also like masculine scents.

Very strange smell

This is the only FO in all the years we've shopped with CS that has a very strange false fake smell. Can't describe what it is, we've never encountered this before with CandleScience. But wow it sells almost acrid, after asking friends and neighbors it's the only FO in over ten years we've ever just thrown away. There was no way to disguise the smell. It's not smoky and rich at all, no leather and not sweet or supple. Rather it's sort of harsh, salty, strange, fake and acrid smelling. Not sure what's up with the new FO's but this was one of our two first disappointments. We love CandleScience! But a couple of the new fragrances are off-smelling. That's a first.

Little Cabin Soaps

Wow I couldn't get into this one when I tried the sample. There was just something so strange about it that I didn't like... but then!!!! An awesome samaritan mentioned blending it with frosted juniper and now I'm going nuts trying to find other ones that this blends well with. Fallen leaves, cedarwood blanc (that I also didn't care for right away but is awesome blended with this), fraser fir, blue spruce, rosemary & sage... the possibilities are endless!
Blending this with woody/earthy/spicy/holiday scents seriously levels it up and makes it smell that much more sophisticated. I can't wait to try these blends in a candle. So thank you GingerB!

FYI all of these I tested on a blotter strip, not OOTB. They smell better on the blotter!

Looking for a men fragrance

I order 1oz sample bottle because I am looking for a men fragrance. For me the smell is kind of weird, but I blended with very vanilla and smell great.

Blend It With Something

I can't stand this fragrance on its own. But, I blended it with Frosted Juniper, and now it's a winner.

Boss Lady

Bought the 1 oz. sample based upon the mixed reviews. I'm in the process of building a wellness business and was in need of something manly scented for my potential male customers. Used this fragrance in a paraffin blend at 8%, dyed the wax black and poured it in an 8 oz. tin. Once it cured a few days, I asked my husband to test it in our home office while he worked. He loved it. In fact, I could smell it drifting down the hallway and into our living room that afternoon. "Add to cart!"

Love this scent

While I do not get much smokiness, I do get a very good leather scent, which I love! It reminds me of YK's Leather candle, which was always one of my favorites. I'm excited I can now make it myself and make soaps as well!

Smells like a distinguished older man

Which is exactly what I wanted. I love this scent. I have never smelled a candle like this before, and I love having unique candles in my line! Does not smell like pickles to me... I think it’s weird that some people are saying that lol.

Smells like pickles

I thought it might just be me but after seeing the other reviews, I’m glad it’s not. This fragrance definitely smells like weird pickles.

Owner, Tutu Little

My favorite scent from this company so far! Exactly what the name suggests. A+++

Suede and smoke

I am not particularly good with reviews but this time I have to say, I read all the reviews on this fragrance trying to decide. I ordered it. Of course I sniffed it when it arrived. I hemmed and hawed. I was on the fence. Then i made my soap on Presidents day. The fragrance filled my room. I liked it. I used it my soap. The fragrance was amazing all the way through the process. I cut it today and my husband and his friends liked it.I will be buying it again and just to be clear, I sold both loaves within five minutes of cutting them. Of course they have to cure before distribution. It may not be to the liking of every one, but it sure is to the liking of my friends and I.

When I opened this FO it got on my hands and it was super strong. I blended this with another FO and used 30% of the suede and smoke and you can still really smell it. I'm not sure I could use just this in a candle. I used 464 soy. Haven't burned it but the cold throw is good.

Very Nice

Masculine and musky, but still soft and luxurious. Nice HT in GB 464 - will come back for more!!

Not a fan of this one at all. It smells way too smoky, not in a good way. It made me cough.

I wanted a masculine candle for my collection and after reading the great reviews I decided to try. I just don’t like the smell in general. I would never buy it unfortunately. I can’t put my finger on what the smell is but it’s odd. And the hot throw isnt THAT great compares to the others.

agree with other reviewers that it is a smokey smell with little to no suede/leather. recommend mixing with other FOs.

Love It

This scent smells so wonderful. When my husband walked in, he immediately gave a thumbs up. This is one of the scents I will be making for my male customers.

Scents Once I'ts Lit

I was looking for a masculine scent for my candle line, unfortunately I don't like this scent, very strong and doesn't smell great in my opinion. Thankfully I brought a 1 oz so I'm not stuck with it for too long.

love it

I bought this fragrance out of curiosity after reading the negative reviews . I also read the ingredients and decided that it sounded like it would smell great since it is a musk oil base. I don't know how anyone can base anything on smelling out of the bottle . I base my reviews on the after results of using it in my wax melts. This fragrance smells wonderful so glad that I bought it and made my own decision based on candle science's list of ingredients.

love it

I love this scent! I don't know how anyone can give it less than five stars period!

Smells like pickles.

I was looking for a warm smokey scent but all I can smell with this one is pickles. I don't know why it's very strange! I'm going to try and use a small amount in a mix to see if the smokey smell comes through.

Not what I expected

This was my 2nd attempt at finding a masculine fragrance. It is quite a unique smell and seems very adventurous! I feel like I'd have trouble trying to sell this scent but I'm sure it would go better when mixed with other fragrances.

Don't base it off right out of the botlle

I wasn't going to use it after smelling it out of the bottle, but after making a test candle and some melt packs today I can't get enough of the scent! This is a very sensual, warm, masculine scent that reminds me of my grandfather's library and favorite chair and pipe. Definitely a winner!

Love this!

This doesn't smell too fabulous out of bottle but I mixed it with Patchouli and the combo is wonderful!

This is my husband's new favorite scent. It really doesn't resonate with me which is odd because I usually like the masculine scents. It is a strong scent so that is a plus. I will have to keep it around because he keeps requesting it, I hope that maybe it will grow on me?

Maybe its just me...

.... but it smells a bit like pickles to me. Straight from the bottle but also once mixed with 444. A faint pickle smell.

This smell is powerful, wow. It's got that ol' gentlemen scent to it like, the cologne a man might wear when taking a lady to a high end place.

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! At first, smelling out of the bottle, I wasn't sure if I would like it. A bit iffy for me. After making candles with this scent, I am completely in love with it!! We are always looking for a good "bar room" scent. This is perfect. I will be buying more to make soaps and beard oil!

Oh this is my new favorite it's manly but not in your face subtly and sexy all at the same time.

I did not like the smell of this fragrance straight from the bottle; however, in candles it is a keeper. It’s perfect for a niche line of candles I’m making.

Not what I expected

Totally too Smokey, on an old ashtray note , something odd about it , it gave myself and my husband horrid headaches and made us both very nauseous , luckily I only bought 2 1 oz bottles, this one needs some work to tone down the smokey ashtray scent .

Not For Me

I love more masculine scents for fall (as opposed to Apples or Pumpkin Spice) so I had high hopes for this. However, it mostly smells like a barn to me. Leather and barn smells - couldn't really smell the smoke. It might be better mixed with some pine scent or similar, but standing alone it doesn't appeal to me or anyone in my family.

Strong but I like it

Strong smell but I love it! The leather scent jumps out immediately at you followed by the musk. I wouldn't personally make a candle with this scent alone but instead find something to pair it with.

Definitely a distinct smell. I can smell the smokiness, and taking a whiff of it ootb actually made me cough a couple of times. It's very strong, and would stand out for sure. I personally wasn't a fan but I can see how it would be a good scent to mix with or use sparingly. I do smell the leather as well.

I just got this one today and I LOVE it. Its mysterious, which intrigues me about about a FO, especially since I tend to mix blends that stand out from the crowd. I definitely don't smell burnt leather or smoke, or more of the other - its balanced well, in my opinion, and just in time for what I have planned.

Not What I Expected

I'm a fan of more masculine scents, and this one is a pretty confusing scent to describe. It just smells...odd. It pulls a more smokey scent than anything, and not like a campfire or fireside smoke - it's more walking into a dusty smoke-filled room that hasn't opened a window in years, or as another reviewer mentioned, it smells like lighting a leather jacket on fire. It's not really appealing on its own, but could possibly be used as a mixin to create a more in-depth scent, but as it stands now, I'm not sure what to do with it.

I don't usually like masculine scents but this scent is SEXY. I'm using it for a themed line but I'm in love. It is extremely accurate to it's name and description.

Sexy librarian

I got these for my halloween wax melts, and honestly? I enjoy this a lot more than most of the other masculine scents I've gotten. It kind of smells like a sexy old librarian man. I might extend it to my candle range. It just smells that good.

Definitely A Mixer

So, I don't hate this fragrance. It is powerful. The scent is unique, it smells like a brand new leather interior the suede is very distinct but I would like more from this scent. I'll definitely use as a blender with other scents. I highly recommend for anyone looking to bring a different range of scents to candles or soaps but be aware it is very strong in high percentages.

Not sure how to describe this one

On first sniff I thought OH HECK NO. But, I'm willing to keep an open mind. I[ve wanted scents which would appeal to men and hoping this one will "mellow out" once its mixed with the wax and allowed to season. Time will tell.

Sexy and grown

Smells exactly like suede and smoke. Love this one.

I am NOT a fan of this scent. It smells like smoke, only. not leather. I felt like I walked into a southern diner in the 1960's and everyone is smoking cigarettes. If you like cigars, this might be for you. My husband remarked we should name the candles "Grandpa's Recliner."

Laura Branan

This is such a delight and now our personal favorite. Smells like walking into the tack room of a barn. Picking up your saddle and walking over to your horse! Just gorgeous!

Anita J

Leather + smoke

This is definitely a unique scent. To me it smells like a brand new leather jacket being lit on fire, the combined scent of new leather and smoke. Would be an interesting blender but I’m personally not a fan

Very Unique

I honestly can't say I've smelled another FO like this one. I've bought other smokey scents and suede scents but this one doesn't smell like any of them. I definitely recommend this one on the uniqueness factor alone. Can't wait to play around with it.

Co-Owner, Linked Keys

This scent isn’t bad. It is odd, though. I’m getting more of a leather and smoke scent. It’s a bit heavy on the smoke. It smells more like a burning leather jacket. It’s not a bad scent just not ideal to use on its own. I think this is a scent that has to be combined with another one in order for it to work.

If you’re looking for something smoky, this isn’t really it. I get more of a sweet hay and leather combo from it. Would be a great blend.

Confused, but in a good way.

I cannot tell why I like this fragrance, but I do! However, I'm unsure of how it would smell in a candle. I am curious if anyone has or is planning on using it as a blend with another fragrance. It reminds me of how I feel about the "Library" smell. It's familiar, and distinct. I want to compare the smell to a brand new pair of suede and leather shoes. Interesting.
